AMEC-BCI, a Lakeland-based engineering firm, recently honored Kyle Compton for five years of service to the company.Compton began working for AMEC-BCI in 2006 and currently works as a senior environmental technician for the firm. He is responsible for Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) surface water discharge sampling, groundwater sampling, and water quality data analysis. During his tenure at the firm, he has performed field inspections, wildlife and fish surveys, construction monitoring, biological monitoring, and database management for several ongoing remediation and reclamation projects.

AMEC-BCI, a Lakeland based engineering firm, recently announced the promotion of Mike Kelley to serve as the assistant director of its Geotechnical Engineering and Mining group. Formerly serving as the firm’s Geotechnical Services manager, Kelley is now responsible for the daily management of the Geotechnical Engineering and Mining group, as well as all aspects of project management.
Kelley is a professional engineer with more than 16 years of geotechnical engineering experience with significant expertise in management and design works for large scale infrastructure, mining, site investigation, and environmental remediation. Kelley has been involved in a variety of projects including mine tailings, landfill embankment and pond design, restoration and maintenance dredging, construction and site development, water management structures, sinkhole investigation, and remediation, all within a variety of geologic settings.

AMEC-BCI, a Lakeland based engineering firm, recently announced the promotion of David Wilshaw to serve as the assistant director of its Forensic Engineering and Science (FES) group. Formerly serving as the manager of geological hazards, Wilshaw is now the assistant director of AMEC-BCI’s FES group. He brings almost 30 years of experience in the field of geology, with specific technical expertise in the areas of engineering geology, geophysics and foundation engineering. His experience includes substantial proficiency in a variety of intrusive and non-intrusive subsurface exploration techniques, development of ground stabilization and improvement schemes, deep foundation design and construction, coastal and inland waterway geotechnics, environmental and engineering geophysics, open pit and underground mining, karst geology, and hydrogeologic assessments.

AMEC-BCI, a Lakeland-based engineering firm, recently announced the promotion of Carl W. Christmann to serve as the director of its Forensic Engineering and Science (FES) group. Currently serving as the firm’s Geotechnical Engineering and Mining Group, Christmann is now also responsible for overseeing the FES group. A certified professional engineer, he has more than 15 years experience related to the design and construction of geotechnical projects dealing with dredging, construction, foundations, earthen embankments, and reservoirs. Christmann’s major engineering projects have included foundation design and soil characterization for various types of structures and foundations, many requiring ground modification and soil improvement. Throughout his career, he has represented industrial clients, government agencies, contractors, and engineers on projects involving a myriad of environmental and geotechnical problems and challenges.

Along with providing support to the marketing efforts for all AMEC-BCI’s service areas, Meadows works closely with the Forensic Engineering & Science (FE&S) department. Her responsibilities include attending conferences and networking events, as well as handling all marketing collateral for the FE&S department. Meadows received her bachelor’s in agricultural communications and leadership development from the University of Florida, College of Agricultural Life Sciences, where she also minored in leadership. Her experience in marketing includes public relations, non-profit organization management and site construction management.

AMEC-BCI, a Lakeland-based engineering firm, recently named its first-quarter Year of the Client program winners. Dana Whitaker and Stacy East received the Exceptional Internal Client Service award. Whitaker is a senior marketing coordinator for AMEC-BCI, and East is the firm’s human resources coordinator. They were selected from the top three nominations, which also included Janis Caffee. Rob DeWyre received the award for Exceptional External Client Service. A certified professional geologist, he is a senior project manager for AMEC-BCI’s geologic services group and works in the firm’s Michigan office. DeWyre was selected from the top three nominations, which included Karen Warner and Terry Dykehouse. The Year of the Client program was created two years ago to create and maintain a corporate culture that centers on client service. Employees are nominated by their coworkers for either exceptional internal or external client service, and the top three nominees are decided by a selection committee. An awards presentation is then held, where attendees select the winner. |

Dasher began working for AMEC-BCI in April 2006 and currently holds the position of marketing manager. During her tenure at the firm, she has implemented programs and procedures necessary to proactively support the growing company. As marketing manager, Dasher’s responsibilities include the creation of proposals, qualifications packages and all collateral materials, website design and maintenance, publishing a client newsletter, directing AMEC-BCI’s Year of the Client Exceptional Client Service program, database management, business development and procurement support, lead generation and tracking, budget creation and adherence, client follow-up and retention, public relations, advertising, conference and event attendance, and other special projects.

Kelly Crew, an environmental scientist for AMEC-BCI, was recently published in Aquatics magazine. Crew’s article focused on the implementation of a surveillance-based management program in Upper Ocklawaha River Basin (UORB) lakes to combat the invasive aquatic plant hydrilla (Hydrilla vertillata). As a result of the program, hydrilla coverage in UORB lakes has remained below 2 percent of each lake’s surface area at half of the cost of full-lake herbicide applications.
Crew supports AMEC-BCI’s master environmental consulting agreement with the St. Johns River Water Management District (SJRWMD) as a full-time environmental scientist for the Upper Ocklawaha River Basin (UORB). Her environmental expertise is in lake, river, and wetland ecology, GIS mapping and analyses, biological and water quality sampling, and environmental study design. Aquatics is a nationally circulated magazine created to keep people informed about aquatic plant management and is published by volunteers from the Florida Aquatic Plant Management Society.
AMEC-BCI, a Lakeland-based engineering firm, recently helped raise $1,500 for the relief efforts in Japan. AMEC-BCI and AMEC’s Blue Ridge Group co-hosted a Bingo event to raise money for the victims of Japan’s recent tsunami and earthquake. Funds were raised through the sale of each Bingo card. Eight rounds of bingo were played at the various offices through teleconferencing and the Internet. The proceeds will be given to an AMEC-sponsored charity supporting the relief efforts, and AMEC has pledged to match the funds. AMEC’s Blue Ridge Group includes offices in Marietta, Ga., Chantily, Va., Oklahoma City, Okla., Knoxville, Tenn., and Raleigh, N.C.

AMEC-BCI, a Lakeland-based engineering firm, recently hired Jasmin Talbert as a geological field technician.Talbert, a geologist/geophysicist, has six years experience in environmental, geotechnical and geologic investigations, supervision of field operations and geophysics, and hydrogeology. She will be working out of the firm’s St. Louis, Mo., office.
Throughout her career, Talbert has coordinated and overseen the completion of several geotechnical, geological, and hydrogeological investigations throughout the United States. Her past responsibilities have included the development of workplans, communication with clients and regulators, the procurement and oversight of subcontractors, scheduling and conducting field activities, evaluating geophysical and geologic data, 3D modeling with MVS, creating cross sections and geologic logs using RockWare, and the preparation of related reports.
