BCI Engineers & Scientists, Inc., a Lakeland-based engineering firm, recently honored Lynn McGoff for 10 years of service to the company. McGoff is currently a staff scientist in BCI’s Forensic Engineering and Science (FES) department. McGoff’s tenure with BCI began in September 2000 when she joined the firm’s Water Resources department and gained experience in a wide range of environmental and ecological services, including wetland delineation, restoration, monitoring and value assessments, and wildlife surveys and relocation. She has nine years experience conducting geophysical testing for sinkhole and karst related geotechnical evaluations. Her field work experience includes logging SPT borings, soil classification, and analysis of data to determine the presence of sinkhole activity.

Currently, McGoff is responsible for the acquisition and interpretation of ground penetrating radar (GPR) data in support of subsidence and geotechnical investigations for the FES department and has reviewed data for more than two thousand projects. She also has experience with stormwater work associated with the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) and facility inspections for several counties and Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) districts.

BCI made The Zweig Letter Hot Firm 2010 List.BCI Engineers & Scientists, Inc., a Lakeland-based engineering firm, recently made The Zweig Letter Hot Firm 2010 List.  This is the first year BCI has earned a spot on the annual list, which highlights the most successful architecture, engineering and environmental consulting firms in the United States and Canada based on revenue. The Lakeland firm ranked 99th on the list published by ZweigWhite, a management consulting and research firm.  “BCI is pleased to be recognized by ZweigWhite and rank among the top firms in North America,” BCI Executive Vice President Walter Reigner said. “This achievement highlights our team’s hard work and dedication to exceptional client service.”

Every October for the past 10 years, ZweigWhite has recognized the fastest growing companies in architecture, engineering and environmental consulting by publishing the Hot Firm list. The firms’ rankings are based on their change in revenue and earnings over the previous three years in terms of real dollars and percentage change. The companies with the best combined scores appear in the annual publication.  BCI and the other ranked firms will be recognized during The Zweig Letter 2010 Hot Firm Conference and Awards Celebration on Oct. 27-28, 2010, at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center in Washington, D.C.

The Lakeland-based engineering firm received the honor during Polk Works’ annual awards breakfast. The distinction is given to businesses that are the most innovative in the areas of motivating and retaining their employees, training and development initiatives, and workplace practices which include commitment to a work/life balance.  “Only an elite few have accomplished a similar level of commitment to their workforce, and we honor BCI Engineers & Scientists, Inc. for understanding the importance and value of their employees,” stated a letter from Polk Works 2020 to BCI President and CEO Richard M. Powers.

The Best Places to Work Awards are determined by employee surveys and a panel of judges. This year’s responses from BCI employees included comments concerning the firm’s reaction to the growing cost of employee benefits.  “During the annual review of benefits, BCI, like many other companies, was faced with a substantial increase in cost,” stated one respondent. “However, rather than passing the rate hike on to its employees, BCI made up the difference.”   Another survey highlighted BCI’s commitment to professional development and how the program offers every employee – from its administrative staff to its technical teams – the chance to pursue various opportunities in this area.

Bartholomew-LaraBCI Engineers & Scientists, Inc., a Lakeland-based engineering firm, recently hired Lara Bartholomew. Bartholomew was hired July 26, 2010, and currently serves as a staff geologist within BCI’s Forensic Engineering & Science group. She performs field work at various sites suspect of sinkhole activity.

Bartholomew received her bachelor’s degree in geology from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. Her past experience includes project management, subsurface temperature research and mapping, and developing intra-office data modeling and design distribution systems with EXCO Resources.  She holds membership in the Dallas Geological Society, the Houston Geological Society, the Society of Exploration Geophysicists, Young Professionals in Energy, and the Association of American Petroleum Geologists.

Kolukula-PavanBCI Engineers & Scientists, Inc., a Lakeland-based engineering firm, recently honored Pavan Kolukula for five years of service to the company. Kolukula is currently a radiation safety officer in BCI’s Geotechnical Engineering and Mining Department. Kolukula began his tenure with BCI in June 2005, serving as a staff engineer in the Geotech Department. In his current role, he is responsible for ensuring the safe utilization of BCI’s nuclear density gauges, as well as making sure all operations comply with the firm’s radioactive materials license. He also conducts triaxial permeability laboratory testing and manages residential sinkhole remediation and other grouting-related projects.

While at BCI, Kolukula has worked on a variety of projects involving shallow foundation design for residential, commercial and industrial structures; foundation remediation and ground improvement for residential and industrial structures; and embankment design using specialty ground medication techniques. Major projects he has worked on include the Palm Beach aggregates, Lake Fannie Berm restoration and CF Industries South Pasture Extension recharge modeling.
