Finn MichelsenAMEC-BCI, a Lakeland-based engineering firm, recently hired Finn B. Michelsen as a senior geophysicist. Michelsen, a professional geologist (PG), has more than 25 years of experience in the integrated areas of geophysics, geology, and instruments engineering and design capabilities. His extensive experience includes applied geophysical survey services and project management in the oil and gas (land and marine), engineering geophysics, and environmental industries worldwide. Throughout his career, Michelsen has been involved in a wide range of projects worldwide, supporting petroleum and minerals exploration projects, land and marine geohazards projects, geologic modeling, geotechnical and civil engineering projects, environmental and archaeological site investigations, and unexploded ordnance (UXO) investigations using a variety of geophysical survey methods and data processing techniques.

Richard PowersAMEC-BCI, a Lakeland based engineering firm, recently honored Vice President Richard M. Powers for his 30 years of exceptional service to the company. Powers, who is a certified professional geologist, joined AMEC-BCI on March 16, 1981. At the Lakeland company, he is responsible for the corporate management of AMEC-BCI and serves as principal-in-charge for geological, hydrological and environmental engineering projects. During his tenure at the firm, he has participated in numerous projects involving disposal of waste materials from heavy minerals, mining and processing of phosphate, limestone, sand and copper. He has conducted numerous site investigations, drilled extensively in many extremely difficult access locations and supervised earthen dam, reclamation, gypsum stack expansion and dredging construction projects.

Powers has directed projects dealing with ground water pollution control and remediation, gypsum stack expansion design, permitting and construction, dredge and fill permitting, surface and ground water permitting, and life-of-mine waste disposal planning and annual water balance projections. Additionally he has completed reclamation design projects, roadway corridor studies and foundation stabilization projects, and has utilized/developed state-of-art hydraulic dredging and sediment dewatering techniques to restore several fresh water lakes.

Mark FrederickAMEC-BCI, a Lakeland-based engineering firm, recently hired Mark J. Frederick, as project engineer for its civil engineering and water resources group. Frederick is a professional engineer and certified floodplain manager with more than 10 years of diverse engineering experience in stormwater management system design and watershed model development. At AMEC-BCI, he works on a variety of civil site development and stormwater projects.

A 2005 graduate of Purdue University, Frederick has a bachelor’s of science degree in civil engineering. He is the current Florida Engineering Society (FES) Ridge Chapter president and has been the chapter coordinator of the FES MATHCOUNTS program for more than three years. He has also served on various committees within the organization and received the Young Engineer of the Year Award through the local chapter in 2008 and 2009. Frederick is actively involved in the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). He was the recipient of the 2011 ASCE Ridge Branch Young Engineer of the Year Award. He is also involved in local young professionals group, Lakeland EMERGE.

AMEC-BCI, a Lakeland-based engineering firm, recently named its fourth-quarter Year of the Client program winners. Mikhal Moberg received the award for Exceptional Internal Client Service. He is a staff engineer for the firm’s Water Resources team. He was selected from the top three nominations, which included Jacque Levine and Tender Richard. Scott Wuitschick received the award for Exceptional External Client Service. A certified professional engineer, he is the assistant director of AMEC-BCI’s Water Resources and Civil Engineering group. He was selected from the top three nominations, which included Troy Bourn and Eric Brown.

The Year of the Client program, which was recently featured in the national publication, The ZWEIG Letter, was created two years ago to create and maintain a corporate culture that centers on client service. Employees are nominated by their coworkers for either exceptional internal or external client service, and the winners are decided by a selection committee. An awards presentation is held each quarter to announce the winners.

Aziza BaanAziza Baan, a GIS specialist and water resource scientist for AMEC-BCI, recently won first place in the GIS Day Map Gallery Contest. Baan won the award during the Central Florida GIS Workshop, which is managed by the East Central Florida Regional Planning Council. She received first place in recognition of accomplishment for “Excellent Use of Cartographic Practices in a GIS Environment.” Baan’s winning map was a watershed graphic she and AMEC-BCI’s Scott Wuitschick developed for a Hillsborough County Manatee River Watershed proposal.

As a GIS specialist at AMEC-BCI, Baan manages GIS tasks and performs data research, data compilation, database development, aerial interpretations, data interpolations and QA/QC analysis. Her multidisciplinary background includes assisting with ecological and wetland site evaluations, delineations and field assessments on various projects.
