AMEC-BCI, a Lakeland-based engineering firm, recently hired Finn B. Michelsen as a senior geophysicist. Michelsen, a professional geologist (PG), has more than 25 years of experience in the integrated areas of geophysics, geology, and instruments engineering and design capabilities. His extensive experience includes applied geophysical survey services and project management in the oil and gas (land and marine), engineering geophysics, and environmental industries worldwide. Throughout his career, Michelsen has been involved in a wide range of projects worldwide, supporting petroleum and minerals exploration projects, land and marine geohazards projects, geologic modeling, geotechnical and civil engineering projects, environmental and archaeological site investigations, and unexploded ordnance (UXO) investigations using a variety of geophysical survey methods and data processing techniques.
AMEC-BCI, a Lakeland based engineering firm, recently honored Vice President Richard M. Powers for his 30 years of exceptional service to the company. Powers, who is a certified professional geologist, joined AMEC-BCI on March 16, 1981. At the Lakeland company, he is responsible for the corporate management of AMEC-BCI and serves as principal-in-charge for geological, hydrological and environmental engineering projects. During his tenure at the firm, he has participated in numerous projects involving disposal of waste materials from heavy minerals, mining and processing of phosphate, limestone, sand and copper. He has conducted numerous site investigations, drilled extensively in many extremely difficult access locations and supervised earthen dam, reclamation, gypsum stack expansion and dredging construction projects.
AMEC-BCI, a Lakeland-based engineering firm, recently hired Mark J. Frederick, as project engineer for its civil engineering and water resources group. Frederick is a professional engineer and certified floodplain manager with more than 10 years of diverse engineering experience in stormwater management system design and watershed model development. At AMEC-BCI, he works on a variety of civil site development and stormwater projects.
Aziza Baan, a GIS specialist and water resource scientist for AMEC-BCI, recently won first place in the GIS Day Map Gallery Contest. Baan won the award during the Central Florida GIS Workshop, which is managed by the East Central Florida Regional Planning Council. She received first place in recognition of accomplishment for “Excellent Use of Cartographic Practices in a GIS Environment.” Baan’s winning map was a watershed graphic she and AMEC-BCI’s Scott Wuitschick developed for a Hillsborough County Manatee River Watershed proposal.
