Richfield Landfill Remedial Investigation/Hydrogeologic Monitoring

Richfield Landfill, Inc. owns and operates a Type II sanitary landfill in Richfield Township, Michigan. This facility is licensed and operates under Act 451 and 40 CFR Parts 257 and 258 requirements.

Initially, BCI was charged with the task of evaluating hydrogeologic data collected by others, the development and organization of a groundwater quality database and a reinterpretation of the site's hydrogeologic setting.  Based on these evaluations, BCI prepared and submitted a site Hydrogeologic Monitoring Plan (HGMP) to the MDEQ on Richfield Landfill, Inc.'s behalf. This plan focused on groundwater monitoring of three aquifers underlying the landfill. The HGMP included the addition of strategically placed groundwater monitoring wells and the deletion of several wells determined to be not adequately located.  The HGMP was reviewed and accepted by the MDEQ.

Other site evaluation activities completed by BCI include the  design and installation of multiple aquifer groundwater and landfill gas monitoring networks, leachate outbreak remedial investigation and soil remediation, development of statistical tolerance limits for groundwater monitoring points, on-site and off-site hydrogeological investigations, development of assessment monitoring programs, and development of  response and remedial action plans. BCI also completed an environmental assessment and assisted in the preparation of solid waste landfill construction permit applications.
