Sippo Lake
Dredging Project

Scope
Lake Sippo is a 107-acre freshwater lake located in Perry Township, Starke County, Ohio. The lake and accompanying 260-acre Sippo Lake Nature Area and Sanders Center of Outdoor Education is a focal point for the local community. Several feasibility studies confirmed that ongoing, explosive summer growth of macrophytes was the direct result of shallow lake depths.
The prescriptive solution was to remove 300,000 cubic yards of organic, rich lake bottom sediment. Disposal of sediment was a problem due to the urbanized setting of the site. BCI used a patented sediment dewatering process developed by the Florida Institute of Phosphate Research (FIPR) to rapidly dewater the sediment and eliminate the need for large drying/sediment disposal areas.
